Fujiya
Kawayu Onsen is one of the three hot spring (onsen) hamlets that make up the Hongu Onsen area. It is convenient for those who wish to walk the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage trails and easily reached by bus from Kumano Hongu Taisha Grand Shrine. Kawayu Onsen Fujiya Ryokan is the oldest ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) in Kawayu Onsen hamlet. It has a rotenburo (open air bath) that can be reserved for private use, as well as baths made from marble and Wakayama pinewood. All the baths use fresh hot spring water. The “Sennin-buro” open-air bath located right in front of Fujiya is a rare hot spring in Japan: here, the water can be sourced from directly digging into the riverbed – and you can even enjoy digging it out yourself. The “Sennin-buro” is available between December and the end of February.
Fujiya offers Kishu (Wakayama) cuisine that utilises seasonal ingredients.
The modern room (with a western-style bed) has its own open-air bath made of local Kumano-sourced cedar, cypress, and bamboo.
